Abstract

Road pavement is of critical importance to the smooth flow of transportation, especially on routes with high traffic volumes. The Cikupa Highway is one of the sections that is particularly prone to damage due to the combination of heavy traffic loads and environmental factors. The objective of this study is to analyse the extent of damage to rigid pavement on a 2 km section of the Cikupa Highway. The study employs the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) method to achieve this objective. The PCI method involves a visual survey to identify the type, severity, and extent of damage, followed by the calculation of Deduct Value (DV), Corrected Deduct Value (CDV), and ultimately the PCI value for each segment. The results of the study indicate the presence of ten dominant types of damage, including divide slab, corner break, large patching, linear cracking, durability crack, spalling joint, faulting, small patching, blow-up, and punchout. The PCI values for the majority of segments are classified as very good to good (72–100), with an average PCI value of 89.52. However, there are segments in moderate condition, specifically between STA 0+800–0+900 (PCI 53), and in poor condition between STA 1+500–1+600 (PCI 41), which require structural rehabilitation. It is evident that the overall condition of the road is still predominantly satisfactory, as indicated by the predominance of the good category. However, it is imperative to note that segments exhibiting low PCI values necessitate immediate attention to ensure the maintenance of pavement performance.
