Peer Review
Peer Review Process
Journal of Information, Technology, Engineering, and Science (JITES)
The Journal of Information, Technology, Engineering, and Science (JITES) upholds the highest standards of academic integrity through a rigorous double-blind peer review process. This process ensures that the scientific content published in the journal is of the highest quality, free from bias, and meets international academic standards. All submitted manuscripts undergo a thorough evaluation involving multiple stages to maintain fairness, objectivity, and confidentiality.
1. Initial Screening
After submission, the manuscript undergoes an initial screening by the editorial team to ensure:
- The manuscript fits the scope and focus of JITES.
- Compliance with submission guidelines and the journal’s formatting template.
- Originality check using plagiarism detection software. Manuscripts with a similarity index exceeding 25% will be rejected or returned to the authors for revision.
If the manuscript fails to meet these basic requirements, it may be rejected without peer review or sent back to the authors for corrections.
2. Plagiarism Screening
All manuscripts are screened for plagiarism to ensure the originality of the content. JITES uses reliable plagiarism detection tools to identify overlapping or copied content. Manuscripts that do not meet the journal’s originality standards will be rejected or returned for revision.
3. Double-Blind Peer Review Process
Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are assigned to two independent reviewers who are experts in the relevant subject area. JITES employs a double-blind review process, where:
- The reviewers do not know the identities of the authors.
- The authors do not know the identities of the reviewers.
This process helps maintain impartiality and eliminates potential biases in the review process.
4. Review Criteria
Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on several key criteria:
- Originality and Novelty: The contribution of the manuscript to existing knowledge in information technology, engineering, science, or education.
- Relevance: The alignment of the manuscript with the journal’s scope and focus.
- Scientific Rigor: The soundness of research methodology, data analysis, and interpretation of results.
- Clarity and Coherence: The logical structure of the manuscript, clarity of language, and quality of writing.
- Ethical Standards: Compliance with ethical research and publication practices.
- References: The use of credible, up-to-date, and relevant sources.
5. Reviewer Recommendations
After evaluating the manuscript, reviewers provide detailed feedback and recommendations, which may include:
- Accept without Revisions: The manuscript is suitable for publication in its current form.
- Minor Revisions Required: The manuscript requires slight modifications but does not need a re-review.
- Major Revisions Required: Significant changes are needed, and the revised manuscript will undergo another round of review.
- Reject: The manuscript does not meet the journal’s standards or is outside the journal’s scope.
6. Editorial Decision
The Editor-in-Chief or assigned section editor makes the final decision based on the reviewers’ recommendations. The possible editorial decisions are:
- Accepted: The manuscript is ready for publication.
- Accepted with Minor Revisions: Authors are required to make minor changes without further peer review.
- Revise and Resubmit: Authors must address substantial reviewer comments, and the revised manuscript will be re-evaluated.
- Rejected: The manuscript is not suitable for publication in JITES.
If the reviewers’ recommendations differ significantly, the editor may assign an additional reviewer to provide an independent assessment.
7. Revision Process
Authors receiving requests for revisions must:
- Submit the revised manuscript along with a detailed response letter addressing each reviewer’s comments.
- Clearly highlight the changes made in the manuscript (e.g., using track changes or colored text).
- Ensure that all revisions are completed within the specified deadline.
Failure to submit revisions on time without prior communication may result in the manuscript being withdrawn from consideration.
8. Final Evaluation and Acceptance
After revision, the manuscript will undergo a final evaluation by the editorial team. If necessary, it may be sent back to the original reviewers for a second review. Once the manuscript meets all academic and editorial standards, it will be accepted for publication.
Minor edits related to grammar, style, or formatting may be made by the editorial team before final publication without altering the content or meaning.
9. Confidentiality and Ethical Considerations
JITES maintains strict confidentiality throughout the review process. Reviewers must:
- Treat all manuscripts as confidential documents.
- Not share, discuss, or disclose any manuscript content with unauthorized individuals.
- Declare any conflicts of interest that may influence their review.
The journal follows ethical guidelines based on the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) to address any cases of academic misconduct, such as plagiarism, data fabrication, or unethical research practices.
10. Appeals and Complaints
Authors who disagree with an editorial decision may submit an appeal to the editorial board, providing a clear rationale and supporting evidence. Appeals will be reviewed thoroughly, and the final decision will be communicated to the author. The editorial board’s decision after the appeal process is final.
