Publication Ethics
Journal of Economics, Business, and Humanities (EKSISHUM)
The Journal of Economics, Business, and Humanities (EKSISHUM) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics. This ethical guideline is based on the principles set by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) to ensure the integrity, transparency, and quality of the academic publishing process. All parties involved in the publication process—authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher—are expected to adhere to these ethical standards.
1. Ethical Responsibilities of Authors
Authors submitting manuscripts to EKSISHUM must ensure the following:
- Originality and Plagiarism: The submitted manuscript must be an original work and free from plagiarism. Authors must properly cite or quote all sources that have influenced their work. Manuscripts will be screened for plagiarism, and submissions with a similarity index exceeding 25% will be rejected.
- Multiple Submissions: Manuscripts should not be submitted to more than one journal simultaneously. Duplicate or redundant publication is considered unethical.
- Authorship Criteria: All individuals who have made significant contributions to the research should be listed as authors. The corresponding author must ensure that all co-authors have approved the final version of the manuscript and agree to its submission.
- Data Integrity: Authors must present accurate data and results. Fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of data is strictly prohibited. Authors should retain raw data related to their research and provide it if requested by the editorial team.
- Conflict of Interest: Authors must disclose any financial, personal, or professional conflicts of interest that may influence their research.
- Acknowledgment of Sources: Proper acknowledgment of the work of others is mandatory. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in shaping their research.
2. Ethical Responsibilities of Editors
Editors play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of the publication process. Their responsibilities include:
- Fairness and Objectivity: Editors must evaluate manuscripts based on academic merit without discrimination regarding race, gender, religion, nationality, or political beliefs of the authors.
- Confidentiality: Editors must treat all submissions confidentially and not disclose any information about manuscripts to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, and the publisher.
- Decision-Making: Editors are responsible for making final decisions on manuscript acceptance based on the reviewers’ recommendations and the quality of the work.
- Handling Misconduct: Editors must actively address ethical issues, including allegations of research misconduct, plagiarism, or conflicts of interest. They should take appropriate action if ethical breaches are identified.
3. Ethical Responsibilities of Reviewers
Reviewers contribute to the quality and credibility of published research through an objective evaluation process. Their responsibilities include:
- Confidentiality: All information regarding submitted manuscripts must be treated as confidential and should not be shared with others without the editor’s permission.
- Objectivity and Constructive Feedback: Reviews should be conducted objectively, providing clear, constructive, and unbiased feedback to help authors improve their work. Personal criticism is inappropriate.
- Timeliness: Reviewers should complete their reviews promptly. If unable to meet the deadline, they must notify the editor to allow the manuscript to be assigned to another reviewer.
- Conflict of Interest: Reviewers should decline to review a manuscript if they have any conflicts of interest related to the research, authors, or institutions involved.
4. Ethical Responsibilities of the Publisher
The publisher of EKSISHUM is committed to supporting the editorial team in maintaining the highest ethical standards. This includes:
- Ensuring Editorial Independence: The publisher does not interfere with editorial decisions and supports editors in managing ethical issues.
- Handling Misconduct: The publisher will collaborate with editors to investigate cases of suspected misconduct and take appropriate actions, such as issuing corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern when necessary.
5. Handling Ethical Misconduct
EKSISHUM takes allegations of misconduct seriously. In cases of suspected unethical behavior, the journal will follow the COPE flowcharts and guidelines, which may involve:
- Investigating the issue thoroughly and confidentially.
- Contacting the authors for clarification or correction.
- In severe cases, retracting the published article and notifying relevant institutions or authorities if necessary.
6. Retraction Policy
Articles may be retracted if:
- There is clear evidence of data fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism.
- The article contains unethical research practices.
- Significant errors are identified that invalidate the findings.
A retraction notice will be published in the journal to maintain the integrity of the academic record.
